Deputy Court Clerk

Reports to: Municipal Court Clerk for Court Matters only and City Clerk for Employee Policies as outlined in handbook  
Directly Supervises: Non-Supervisory  

 

Position Overview

Under close supervision, works in conjunction with other clerical and administrative personnel to perform a variety of routine clerical duties for the Municipal Court following established policies and procedures.

 

Essential Job Functions

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, May include the following.  Other related duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Enters traffic, parking and criminal misdemeanor cases into computer system.

 

  1. Answers telephone and handles routine questions for the general public, routing calls as needed.

 

  1. Operates computer to retrieve case and defendant information and/or update defendant’s case file.

 

  1. Greets visitors and directs general public to appropriate area.

 

  1. Files and retrieves case files.

 

  1. Responds to record requests, including certifying documents.

 

  1. Records data on appropriate form/log.

 

  1. Verifies data for accuracy and completeness.

 

  1. Prints and distributes dockets, assist with pulling files and checking for complaints, and distributes files.

 

  1. Assists in courtroom during trial and arraignment sessions.

 

  1. Retrieves mail from other outside departments/locations as needed.

 

  1.  Performs other duties as assigned

 

 

 

Other Job Functions

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

 

  1. Knowledge/ability to learn court system operations.

 

  1. Knowledge of computer hardware and software with the ability to demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel.

 

  1. Ability to learn current computer software used by the Court.

 

  1. Ability to meet and deal with the public.

 

  1. Basic knowledge of bookkeeping.

 

  1. Basic computer data entry skills.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Must demonstrate a typing skill of 20 wpm.

 

Education and Experience

1.    High School Diploma.

2.    One (1) year general clerical or secretarial experience and one (1) year customer service experience is required.

  1. Occasional lifting/carrying of 10+ pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment.
  2. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting and kneeling to perform the essential functions.
  3. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment.
