Job Overview:

Job Objective:

To operate various trucks to transport equipment, materials and work crews to work sites and to perform manual tasks as required. Prior experience with dump truck and other heavy equipment preferred.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Operates light and medium duty trucks and trailers to transport light and medium equipment and materials to assigned work sites and dumping areas;
  2. Operates front-end loaders to load dirt, gravel and other materials onto trucks;
  3. Operates hand and tractor mounted mowing equipment to cut grass or brush from ditches and right-of-ways;
  4. Loads and secures small and medium equipment on trailers for transport to job sites;
  5. Drives trucks with trailer to transport small and medium equipment to job sites;
  6. Checks assigned equipment daily to assure that tire pressure, fuel, oil, and other fluid levels are sufficient; adds oil, fuel and other liquids;
  7. Operates steam cleaner and water hose to clean equipment;
  8. Reviews assigned projects to determine equipment and materials needed;
  9. Notifies Foreman or Supervisor of additional materials or equipment required;
  10. Operates hand and power tools to make street/road repairs;
  11. Instructs other operations in the operation of equipment;
  12. Notifies Foreman or Supervisor of unusual situations and equipment malefactions
  13. Performs unskilled laboring tasks;
  14. Certification in Incident Command Structure categories preferred;
  15. Performs other related duties as required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Work involves lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying 40 pounds or more.
  2. Work involves the operation of non-commercial motor vehicles;

  4. Work involves the operation of motorized equipment such as chain saws, power saws, jackhammers, lawn mowers, and tractors;
  5. Work involves climbing or running;

  8. Works in a relatively high average temperature over a long period of time;
  9. Work involves considerable physical exertion of the whole body over a long period of time
  10. Work requires near vision (20 inches or less);
  11. Work required distant vision (20 feet or more);
  12. Work involves the detection of color differences;
  13. Work involves determination of the correct location of a sound, such as footsteps;
  14. Work involves hearing and understanding conversation or sounds.

 

Work Environment:

The environmental conditions listed below are common to this job:

  1. Outdoor weather conditions;
  2. Work near moving mechanical parts;
  3. Work in high, precarious places;
  4. Fumes or dust;
  5. Toxic or caustic chemicals;
  6. Extreme heat (non-weather over 90°F);
  7. Moderate noise(e.g., light motorized equipment such as lawn mowers);
  8. Loud noise (e.g., jackhammer, heavy motorized equipment).

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through the completion of high school and at least two years of experience in the operation of light and medium equipment. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

  1. Some knowledge of maintenance requirements for light and medium duty trucks;
  2. Skill in the operation of light and medium trucks and trailers;
  3. Skill in the operation of hand tools;
  4. Skill in the operation of hand and tractor mounted mowing equipment;
  5. Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions;
  6. Ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions;
  7. Ability to locate assigned work sites from instructions or maps;
  8. Ability to communicate effectively with others;
  9. Knowledge of all related safety procedures.
  10. Prior experience with dump truck and other heavy equipment preferred.

 

Additional Requirement:

Must have a valid Class A Mississippi Driver’s License and maintain licensure for duration of employment in this position.
